Spelman College

Spelman College is a historically Black women’s college founded in 1881. Located in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhood, Spelman College is home to some 2,300 students. In 2022, construction began on a new Center for Innovation & the Arts just outside the campus’ historic walls and named after President Emerita Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell. Considered the new “front porch” of the campus, the CI&A will be home to Spelman’s thriving arts programs in dance, filmmaking, photography, theater and music, as well as a cutting-edge Innovation Lab.

The Jonathan Logan Family Foundation supported the creation of the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation Center for Documentary Film Studies within the CI&A. The Center includes a classroom named for Dr. Ayoka Chenzira, pioneering filmmaker and Professor Emerita of Art & Visual Culture at Spelman College. The CI&A is scheduled to officially open in April 2025.
