Making Gay History

Making Gay History Season 9 artworkMaking Gay History is an award-winning podcast from journalist Eric Marcus that mines an audio archive of rare interviews to create intimate, personal portraits of both known and long-forgotten advocates, activists and allies from LGBTQ history.  The voices from these recordings, combined with contemporary interviews, speak directly to the listener and deliver powerful accounts of a struggle that transformed American society and inspired LGBTQ civil rights efforts around the world.

Making Gay History has both social justice and storytelling at its core. Funding from the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation has helped the podcast grow and expand its reach. In addition to producing the podcast, the Making Gay History team maintains a robust website that includes episode notes and archival photos to deepen the podcast listener’s understanding of the people whose stories they’ve heard. Working with their education partners at History UnErased, Making Gay History produces LGBTQ history-related audio content for use in middle and high school classrooms.
